MuslimWedding

Muslim Wedding Video

A typical Muslim wedding video can be broken down into 3 main parts although some videos may include other ceremonies too.

Mehndi video
Nikah or Baraat video
Walima video

Mehndi video

Some families do Bride and Groom's mehndi separately this may be due to distance or simply family traditions but these days many families arrange for a grand mehndi where the ceremony is performed on both the Bride and Groom together. Usual items that a Muslim wedding video must have in the Mehndi portion are:-

* Gathering of the guests
* Arrival and welcome of the Groom
* Arrival and welcome of the Bride
* Mehndi ceremony itself which can be either a few close members putting mehndi and oil on Bride and Groom or the entire gathering.
* General shots of food (definitely not the close ups of people eating) but generally families do request wide generic shots of the food.
* Entertainments if it is arranged.

Nikah/Baraat video

For a Muslim wedding video, this is the main event so it is better to briefly talk about both the sides.

Bride's side

A wedding video man will need to report to the Bride's house or at a place where she is getting ready. Bride's usually like to have a portion of their make up activity filmed. Well it is after all their wedding. We usually try to take all of these shots from a creative point of view. Usually the bride is already 80% done up before the wedding video man starts his work. After this a family photo session may take place where the videographer will also take video shots. All this can become a very creatively cut montage of a wedding video.
Then the bride will leave to reach the wedding venue and the wedding video guys will follow her to receive her at the venue right up to the room in which she will sit until the nikah ceremony is done or until it is the time for grand entry into the hall.

Groom's side

Groom side portion of a Muslim wedding video will start with the 'Sehra bandhi' ceremony which is performed at Groom's house. Some couples choose not to get this part filmed but for the others it is as important as any other part of the wedding video. Family and especially sisters take pride in transforming their brother into a 'Groom' who is the moon amongst all the stars by performing all the ceremonies and putting the 'Sehra' on him. Sehra bandhi portion of a Muslim wedding video can also be a nicely paced visual montage and there are plenty of songs that fit right for the occasion.
After the Sehra Bandi Groom leaves for the venue. The wedding video guys will follow him to receive him at the venue.

At the Venue

It is always advised to hire the same wedding video company to work for both sides in other words let one company produce one wedding video for both sides.

* It is cheaper to pay one company to make a video for both sides.
* Videographers will not step on each others toes to get the shot
Either way this is what the venue portion of the Muslim wedding video comprises of
* Montage of Gathering
* Arrival of the Bride and move into a separate room.
* Arrival of the Baraat
* Welcome of the Baraat ceremony.
* May be a quick montage of refreshments if there is any
* Groom's Entry into the Hall with some fun bargaining with the Bride's sisters (even brothers in some cases)
* Nikah ceremony performed in Bride's room and in the main hall with prayer
* Families and friends congratulating each other.
* Grand entry of the Bride
* Cake cutting or any other ceremony as they vary with different families or origins.
* Generic shots of food and the couple visiting their guests at their tables.
* Rukhasati

In some cases the Wedding video guys will travel to the Groom's house to film the arrival of the Bride at her new home where ceremonies like her welcome at the door, reading line from the holy Quran, Mother-in-law giving her milk etc.

Walima video

Walima is the party organised by the Groom's family. Bride's family also attends to once again meet her new family and in a way to see how she was received by her new family. In a way it is quite nice to have Bride's family being treated and welcomed by the Groom's family. Walima can take place on the following day or few weeks after the wedding.
Walima portion of a Muslim wedding video will comprise of

Gathering of the guests

This portion is actually same for almost all the events. Normally it takes about an hour for all the guests to arrive. Wedding videographer and wedding photographer will start capturing the guests as they start arriving. Although we might be filming for over an hour but the reality is that you do not want to be sitting and watching your wedding DVD for the whole hour and just barely go pass the arrival of the guests so, we edit that portion into a nice and crisp 5-15 minutes segment. This way you see it all but not get bored.

Arrival and welcome of the Bride's family

Arrival of the Bride's family is the highlight of the day as this is the first happy event they have come to attend in their daughter's family. Usually they will be greeted at the door by the Groom's family.

Grand entry of the newly wedded couple

Once all the family members have arrived, it's time for the newly wedded couple to make their grand entry. Dhol players are the usual fanfare used for this but many couples may opt for one of their favourite song being played by the DJ.

Normally most of the guests stand up and either greet them or take pictures and make videos on their mobile phones or expensive cameras but we always request the DJs to make a polite announcement to request all the guests to stay seated as this way everybody see the couple making their entry in to the reception hall as well as the professional videographers and photographers can capture their reception entry in a better way.

Although the rest of the run down of the event may vary but usually this time all the guests will join them on the stage. The wedding photographer will take the pictures and wedding video guy will also film to turn that footage into a nice montage.

Food

You all know what happens at this stage. Although the best practice to film the food portion is to take the shots of the food layout if it is a buffet or while it is being brought in and placed on the tables. some shots of the guests taking the food. Some extra wide shots of the hall full of guests eating their food and that's it.

Depending on the family there might be some entertainment organised by the Groom's friends or brothers and sisters.

Finally we would like add that we have written this from our experience as wedding videographers. Ceremonies do differ from family to family. It is just a brief of what one can expect from a Muslim wedding video. We by no means are implying that every Muslim wedding or Muslim wedding video is or must have these ceremonies and segments.

OohHinduPic

Hindu wedding video

A Hindu wedding video can usually be broken down in to 3 parts:

The Poojas
The Wedding
The Reception

There are many different traditions in the Hindu wedding rituals depending on where the family comes from and so we at Ooh weddings can accommodate for these ceremonies and create a video which will suit the taste of the client and their families .

The first part of a Hindu wedding is a pooja to Lord Ganesh and then any poojas relevant to the family. The wedding videographer and wedding photographer will make sure that the whole pooja is filmed and also any prashad and food also.

The Wedding

A Hindu wedding usually takes place under a canopy (Mandap). This is usually set up in a hall although it can take place in a mandir. The wedding videographer and wedding photographer will make sure that he arrives in plenty of time to take shots of the Mandap and any other decorations. Our wedding videography and wedding photography pays enough attention to details of the hall decorations etc.

The Bride's side

Before getting to the venue the wedding video and wedding photography guys will arrive at the Bride's house to film her having her make-up done and final touches to her outfit. These are creative shots and are done discreetly. The wedding videographer and photographers will then take any family shots that are required and then film the bride leaving to go to the venue.

The Groom's side

This portion of the Hindu wedding video will see the groom getting dressed for the big day. The wedding videographer and photographer will artistically film the Groom and his brothers or best men. The wedding video guy photographer will then take shots of the family and the Groom leaving for the venue.

At the Venue

Here the wedding videography and photography will capture:

The arrival if the baraat

Usually for the Hindu wedding ceremony the baraat arrives with full fanfare. Dhol and Dandia are the norm in most of the Hindu weddings. It is always good to have both the cameras filming this time as this way both sides can be filmed.

The Groom's welcome

Bride's mother will perform a short ceremony and get the Groom out of the car and then the baraat makes their way to the hall.

Main welcome ceremony takes place at the ceremonial gate or the mandap which normally is either the main door of hall or the point from where the guests sitting arrangement starts from. It is always good to have two wedding videographers filming this ceremony although a single wedding photographer may be enough

Highlight of this ceremony is the breaking of the clay pot by the Groom. We have noticed that at this point it can get very noisy and confusing. Many people will be telling the groom what to do but rule of the thumb is do nothing until the wedding videographer and photographer give you clear signal.

After this Groom can just relax and make his way to the mandap or the food hall if breakfast is also arranged before the wedding. Once in the mandap, He will be performing many small ceremonies. Depending on the priest and the families the sequence of these ceremonies can vary but the main ceremony involves his feet washing by the Bride's parents.

The arrival of the Bride

This is the first time when the Groom as well as all the guests are going to see the bride in her full attire. Different Brides plan their entry in many different ways. Some want minimum number of people walking her in and some have a long list of people. Well it is her wedding after all and she can have it however she wants.

The kanyadaan (giving away of the Bride)

Kanyadaan and Hasth milap ceremony can be considered as one as these are quite short ceremonies and can be put under one link on the final DVD.

The Mangal pheras

Mangal Pheras are the hub of the wedding ceremony. This is when two people become one in front of the eye of the world. Wedding videographer and photographer like to film this section from many different angles and it is always good to have enough space for video maker and photographers to move around the Mandap. This can be done by simply keeping space between the mandap and the chairs places on both the sides for the core family to sit.

The Sindoor and Mangalsutra

Sindhoor and Mangal Sutra are the only two items that informs the world that the lady is married. Hindu Bride's wear them with pride so it should be filmed well too. Normally the priest allows the wedding photographer and videographers to set the scene as they wish and it sure helps.

Saat Vachan

Different priests perform this ceremony in many different ways. Sometimes they will place 7 suparies on 7 leaves of paan in a row and then the Groom will move the Bride's big toe on to each supari as promises are made and some times priest will ask the couple to walk one step at a time while making the promises. It is all dependent on the family and the priest but wedding video and photo guys will keep an eye on which way the plan is going and cover accordingly, so no need to worry.

Kodak moment

Be it a Hindu wedding, Muslim wedding, Sikh wedding, Christian wedding, polish wedding, Pakistani wedding, Indian wedding or what ever wedding, there has to be a photo session. This can be an organised one or disorganised one but it will surely be there. So you decide which one your wedding will have.

Dinner

This is a very important part of the wedding day, not because of the fact that we are all going to stuff ourselves with delicious food but because this is the time when wedding videographer and the photographer can have creative time with the couple. This is the time when we shoot Cinematic shots of the couple. you can still have food but if you can spend just over half hour with us, you will be pleased.

Doli/Games

In the old days the Kora Kori or games used to be played at the Groom's house once the new Bride has arrived there may it can be a good way of breaking ice for her but these days many couples do it before the Doli. Choice is theirs. Videographers and photographers are simply there to capture it. The Doli is again just like Sikh wedding or a Muslim wedding, an emotional time that we quietly film as best as we can.

After the Hindu Wedding if booked beforehand the wedding videographer will travel back to the Groom's House to film the welcoming of the Bride at her Husbands house and film any games and ceremonies there.

OohSikhPic

Sikh wedding video

The Sikh wedding is a simple ceremony but the celebrations begin a week before the actual wedding ceremony.
However a Sikh wedding video usually starts from the day before the wedding which is the Mayiaan. Both the Bride and Groom will have this ceremony but there are a few extras on the Brides side.

mayiaan at the Groom’s House

On the Mayiaan day the wedding videographer will arrive at the boys house or other venue such as a hall. The videographer will film:
• The Guests arriving
• Arrival of the Maternal Uncles or Nanke
• The Grooms sisters creating a colorful pattern on the floor with coloured rice and powders.
• The Groom entering the venue and sitting down on the floor by the pattern for the Maiyaan ceremony.
• The Mayiaan ceremony
• Jago
• The guests dancing to the sounds of the DJ
• The food.

Mayiaan at the Bride’s House

The Maiyaan ceremony is a very important part of the Sikh wedding video
On the Mayiaan day the wedding videographer will arrive and take shots of the venue and of the guests arriving. The wedding video guy will then film:
The colourful pattern being created on the floor with coloured rice and powder

• The Bride entering and sitting down next to the pattern.
• The Maiyaan ceremony.
Usually on this day there is also the Choora ceremony which the video guy will film.
• The Bride's maternal uncles and families arriving with gifts and being greeted at the door.
• The Choora ceremony
• The displaying of the gifts.

There is usually dinner and dancing and the wedding videographer will discreetly film people dancing and taking food.

The wedding

At the Groom’s House

On the day of the Sikh wedding the wedding videographer will always arrive early to shoot the Groom getting dressed and having his turban tied. How much of the getting dressed is to be filmed is up to the Groom and the wedding videographer. We have filmed the Groom from the moment he starts to shave or only from the point at which he has his turban tied. It is entirely up to you. The wedding video guy will however get as many creative shots of the clothing and Groom and friends as he can so that the Sikh wedding video will have a stylish montage of the Groom dressing up in all his finery.
Once ready the Groom will be filmed by the wedding video guy with his family who will conduct their traditional rituals before departing for the Gurudwara. This is a good time to get some family pictures and video done.
The wedding videographer will film the Groom leaving for the Gurudwara and follow, filming him en route to create some nice montages later.

At the Bride’s House

Once again the wedding videographer will arrive early so that he can film the Bride having her make-up done. Usually this is the stage from which we start filming and is the most comfortable for the Bride. Creative and stylish shots are taken and even some comments from the Bride about her day ahead. This part of the wedding video we feel is really important as the shots we get will be put together to form a montage which will see the transformation of the Girl into the beautiful Bride.
Once ready the wedding video guy will film the bride in different poses on her own and then with members of her family.
The videographer will then follow the bride to the Gurudwara where he will film her entering a separate room where she will wait for the Baraat.

The Arrival of the Baraat & Milni

The arrival of the Baraat is a noisy and fun filled affair. The Groom may arrive on a horse, a horse drawn carriage or a stylish car with his family dancing in front of him.
The wedding video guy will make sure he captures the atmosphere of the arrival encompassing all the fun and frivolity of the occasion.
The next part is the Milni and the wedding video guy will film all the participants of this ceremony which then will see the Baraat enter the Gurudwara and have tea.

The Wedding Ceremony

We always feel and recommend that the Bride and Groom hire the same wedding video company to film the wedding and their own pieces for the days before and the morning of the wedding. This is because:
1. The final wedding video will be all on one set of discs
2. The look of the wedding video will be continuous and seamless
3. It will work out cheaper and finally..
4. On the day the videographers will not get in each others way trying to get the best shot for their clients and so ruining the shots for the other wedding videographer.

So the video guys will take up their arranged positions and film:
• The guests entering and paying respects to the Guru Granth Sahib
• The Groom entering and paying respects to the Guru Granth Sahib
• The removal of the Kalgi
• The entry of the Bride
• The Lavan
• Shabads
• Speeches
• Prashad
• The guests giving their blessings to the Bride and Groom

The Reception

A Sikh wedding is not complete without a Reception.
The wedding videographer and photographer will make sure that they know the order of the evening and what is happening so that all events are captured in the best possible way for the wedding video.

The usual Sikh wedding video will have:

• Guests arriving at the venue
• Refreshments as the guests arrive
• Shots of the venue from the outside
• The entrance of the Bride and Groom into the reception hall
• The cutting of the wedding cake
• Family and friends feeding cake to the happy couple
• The first dance
• People dancing
• The food – shots of the food
• Shots of different tables and people enjoying themselves
• Bride and Groom dancing

Doli

This is the most emotional part of the Sikh wedding video. This part usually takes place at the Bride's house.
The wedding video guys will film the Bride bidding farewell to her family members and performing any ceremonies that are required by her family such as throwing rice over her head etc.

If requested the wedding videographer will travel on to the Groom's house to film the arrival of the Bride at her new home and film her being welcomed by the Groom's family and play any games that are traditional to the Groom's family.
